Picnic at Governor’s Island, NYC

Join us for a fun picnic on Governors Island, with a scenic ferry ride, light snacks, refreshments, and the chance to explore the island and its festivities! Bring your own food and blankets if you like for a memorable day out! Food vendors & bike, pedal cart, and surrey rentals are also available on Governor’s Island (cost of rentals are not covered by CYS).

Event Info & Instructions

Location of Event: Governor’s Island, NYC

Meet Up Location: The C.R.E.A.T.E. Space Studio office 44-02, 23rd Street (Studio 304B) Long Island City, NY (E train, G train or 7 Train to Court Square/23rd Street) The is a Queens location.

Date: Saturday, June 21st, 2025 (If it is a rain day, the outing will be cancelled, and a new scheduled outing date will be provided when available)

Time: We will be meeting up at our C.R.E.A.T.E. Space studio in Long Island City at 10:00 am sharp. (Meet-Up address and directions given after your registration is complete). We will leave for Governor’s Island from there.

Travel: We will walk to the Long Island City Pier from the C.R.E.A.T.E. Space studio office, and take the scheduled NYC Ferry to Wall Street, transferring to the scheduled NYC Governor’s Island ferry from there. The ferry cost (will be covered by CYS.

Activities: Once we arrive at Governor’s Island, we will find our perfect location and set up our picnic blankets there. THIS WILL BECOME OUR DESIGNATED MEETING POINT WHILE ON THE ISLAND.

On the date of June 21st, 2025, Governor’s Island will be holding a number of events, including the FAD MARKET (An outdoor market selling one of a kind goods), PORCH STOMP (dozens of folk bands, artists, and per­form­ing artists perform on the his­toric porch­es of Nolan Park on the Island), and Third Saturdays (artists in residence exhibit their work inside the many historic houses at Governor’s Island). All of these events are free and open to the public

Food & Drink: CYS will be providing limited snacks and beverages. However, you are welcome to bring your own food and drink (NO ALCOHOL) if you like. Things to keep in mind (Please Read):

  • Be on time for the ferry ride. No one wants to get left behind!

  • Wear comfortable clothes, shoes or sneakers (there will be a lot of walking on park terrain).

  • Dress for the weather and bring sun screen and bug spray if you think you’ll need it

  • Pack any personal medication you may need for the day.

  • Food trucks are available, with meals starting at around $15. Plan ahead or bring your own food (CYS will also be providing limited refreshments and snacks)

  • Bring a blanket or towel for lounging (we’ll have a few, but supplies are limited).

  • There are no stores on Governor’s Island, so bring everything you’ll need.

  • Skateboards, smoking, outside alcohol, controlled substances, pets (except on designated days), swimming, and drones, are NOT allowed on Governor’s Island

  • Charge your phone before you come & bring a portable phone charger (cell service can be spotty on the Island, and there aren’t accessible charging areas on the grounds).

  • Explore in pairs whenever possible, and always be aware of your surroundings.

  • Let someone know if you go off on your own.

  • Respect the island, and clean up after yourself and be mindful of others.

  • Respect the buildings, homes and architecture! The homes and buildings at Governor’s Island are protected historic locations, please be mindful of this if you explore any of the homes, interior spaces, or outside grounds.

  • You are responsible for your own safety and valuables, so please travel, and explore with caution and care

  • Most importantly: have fun, relax, and enjoy the day as a CYS family!
